Waterfront Walk to Lunch

Walked with Rita to lunch. Miserable weather, but we did a few shots each, her color on the M9-P and me B&W on the Monochrom. POSTED HERE.

Hey! It’s Light Out.

Category: Daily DrivelRandall Kelley @ 16:49

Left work early enough for my walk home to be in the daylight. So here’s a chance to see if this camera (and this photographer) can shoot in the daylight. All but two of this set are of the Smith Tower, just different views. The gallery is POSTED HERE.

Goodness Gracious…

Great Balls Fire?

Walking home I couldn’t help but spot the new lights between the new building going up (almost done) and the Owl and Thistle Pub. So here are a few shots of those and a couple extra nearer to our apartment. POSTED HERE.

Took a detour up to the pedestrian ramp from First to the Ferries to shoot from above.

A first set from our Sunday outing to the Museum of Flight. What’s a Popemobile got to do with flight? Got me. Maybe it was there because this was a pre-bulletproof popemobile and so he could have flown off to heaven direct. (And if the Pope is afraid to die… what hope for the rest of us?) Regardless, it was a pretty sweet ride and Rita shot some details of it and I shot some wide angles that got the whole thing. We were shooting tag team style, her color, me black and white. We chose this place because we wanted to shoot and it was MISERABLE out. This is an indoor site with a lot of stuff to shoot. I’ll be posting some more sets later as I get them sorted into reasonable categories. In the mean time, we hope you enjoy seeing the popemobile as much as we did. POSTED HERE.

Hey! I know that lady with the M9-P and the Uggs.

21st and Elmore

Category: Daily DrivelRandall Kelley @ 18:59

Had to leave work early for the dentist. I took the camera, figuring maybe I’d get a shot or two at the Fisherman’s Terminal docks by the office. Didn’t shoot much ’cause it was cold as a witch’s tit, or to translate, as cold as the average woman’s tits in a Minnesota blizzard. Wanted to experiment a bit with an exposure theory while I was at it. The Monochrom (their spelling) tends to easily blow highlights, and I found that at night when I wanted the highlights I had to shoot much faster and get very black shadows to get the highlights I was after. If (as usual) I was already at 3200 or 5000 ISO, the extra digital noise induced by upping the exposure and shadow light in Lightroom when processing tended to make those shots really noisy. So I developed the theory that for those situation I could actually shoot at a much lower ISO, expose for the highlights, then push the crap out of it in post processing. The pushing induces a buttload of noise, but as the low ISO files start SO freaking clean, the result should be much closer to a properly exposed 3200 or 5000 ISO shot, but have far more highlight detail in it. Was it successful? Actually, while I need to fine tune both my exposure setting and the post processing setting, very close to what I had theorized. Needless to say, I’m a happy camper, frozen brass or not! Results POSTED HERE.

It’s When the City Drops Into the Night…

Category: Daily Drivel,The Transcendental CowboyRandall Kelley @ 17:46

It’s when the city drops into the night
Before the darkness there’s one moment of light
That’s when everything seems clear
The other side… it seems so near.

Seemed to fit today’s (tonight’s) shots. POSTED HERE.

Had two engagements today. A brunch and movie outing with our friend Debbie, and an evening dinner with Em and Aaron to celebrate their recent marriage (we missed the wedding). I have a few shots from each up now. POSTED HERE.

And then this evening out to dinner with Em and Aaron at the Tamarind Tree Restaurant in the international district. GIrl's side...

The 17th Floor

Category: Daily Drivel,Zeiss CheezeRandall Kelley @ 17:54

Shot a handfull on the walk home, and then decided that the sun dropping might make for an interesting view up on the 17th floor. Of course, it’s glassed in so the glare and reflections in the glass come into play. But it wasn’t bad. I posted a few, culminating with that one, and the can be SEEN HERE.
